What exactly is locking?
Locking, or metal stitching, is a cold repair method used to fix cracked or broken castings without welding. Instead of applying heat, which can damage cast iron, the repair is done by installing precision-machined metal keys and pins across the crack. These mechanically lock the material back together, restore strength, and prevent the crack from spreading. It’s a proven method for repairing large or critical components where welding isn’t suitable or replacement isn’t practical.
